5 Moving Tips for Winter
Summer is called the moving season because of good warm roads and the availability of many types of properties in the market. We have come up with a few tips if you find yourself needing a move during the cold months
Prepare Your Old House
If there is bad weather while packing your stuff, use some heavy plastic for your carpet to keep out dirt and mud. Before your movers arrive, test the durability and use more tape if needed. Make sure that your house is accessible for movers and clear out any snow that may have piled up in front of your house. Ensure that there is plenty of space for the moving truck and make sure that the side-walk is free from snow and ice.
Create a Backup Plan
Talk to your movers beforehand on things such as the weather to come up with contingency plans in case things get worse outdoors. If the weather is too bad, it may be unsafe to drive; delays can also perk up your moving bill. You can try to reschedule if the forecast is not improving as it will be easier for you and your home.
Prepare for the Drive
It is a bright idea to have an emergency kit, tools, extra pieces of clothing, and food during your move. Your vehicle should be serviced and winterized before the move. You can carry these items in your trunk and avoid over packing to save time.
Acquire Some Heavy Duty Materials
Pack your stuff in clear plastic tubs instead of a disposable cardboard box. You will save space in your trunk or moving truck. A plastic bag will also prevent your items from getting wet.
Prepare Your New Space
You can send someone over to the new place to make sure that there is proper lighting, heating and that everything is wired correctly. The first night in your new place might not be ideal but it will be worse if there is no lighting and heating.
