Save Money When Moving
Moving is not an easy task and can be really expensive especially if it was not planned right. Think about it, you need new paint, new window covers, and many other items on top of the moving cost itself. There are many ways that you can use to settle the moving costs and even bring in some unexpected cash. The following are some of the ways that you can use to save money:
Food
This is one unexpected aspect that can raise the cost of moving. Making sure that everyone has had a meal during a move can be really stressful. You would have to make endless trips to the diner, coffee stands or a nice place when you, your relatives or friends can have dinner. These eating costs add up through the course of the week and you might end up spending some hundreds of dollars without even knowing or planning for it.
How do you counter this? Consider taking some time before the moving date and make some pantry items such as lasagnas or casseroles; making food before the moving date saves time and energy. Another awesome idea is to have some fruits and veggies (pre-cut) or string cheese, nuts and dried fruits as a quick snack.
Donate Excess Household Goods and Clothes
The general rule here is, if you haven’t used it in the last 12 months then it’s best if you just parted ways with it. If the piece of clothing or item is not beautiful or useful, toss it. The less items you pack and unpack, the more time you have. Household items or any furniture that can be turned into a tax deduction can bring new savings.
Sell
Selling items on Craigslist or through a garage sale can turn into a great way of bringing in extra cash. You can use this money to buy new stuff for your new place or even pay for the entire move.
Save your Receipts
Your moving expenses may be a tax deductible depending on the situation. You can talk to your accountant for more details.
